A Romanian ship with ammonium sulfate was hit
A Romanian barge ship is in danger of sinking following a naval accident in Reni Port, in Ukraine.
It is about a barge loaded with over a thousand tons of fertilizer, specifically ammonium sulfate. The ship, which was anchored, was hit by another ship carrying animals. Its half sank in Danube. Following the impact, the Romanian barge began to take on water and sink, at which point a call for help was launched.
“A navigational accident took place today at 15:45 in the Reni port area. A Comoros-flagged ship MIRA transporting live animals collided with a Romanian-flagged ship COSMINA 1 transporting ammonium sulfate. Following the accident, the river ship with the Romanian flag suffered a water hole and a pusher was brought in to help push it to the right bank and thus avoid its sinking. The maritime vessel did not suffer any damage and is anchored in the port road of Reni on the left bank. Representatives of the Galati Port Authority went to the spot”, stated the ANR. The quoted source mentioned that efforts are being made to save the river ship.
It sustained starboard hull breach with water ingress, port tug pushed her to river bank shallows to avoid sinking, across Danube in front of Reni. It was pushed to the right bank to avoid sinking and efforts are being made to save the river vessel. The ship that hit it was seized for three days by the Ukrainian authorities. The Romanian shipowner requested the detention of the ship, for compensation.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the naval incident.
