Ghana starts to produce ammonium sulphate through an oil refinery in Tema.
A US$1.98 billion oil refinery facility at Tema is scheduled to commence operation by the end of August this year.

The project which is in accordance with the government’s “One District One Factory” (1D1F) development policy, will produce/refine 5 Million tons of all types of Crude Assays Per Annum, With an Output Of 3.2 Million tons of Refined Petroleum Products such as; Gasoline, Kerosene and Diesel of high quality above the Euro IV Standard.
In addition, the refinery will produce 350,000 tons of a series of Pitch Products, 200,000 tons of lubricating Base Oil and Solvent Naphtha and 400,000 tons of By-Products such as Polypropylene, Liquefied Gas, Ammonium Sulphate, Sulfuric Acid and Sulphur when the two Phases of the Project is fully completed and Commissioned.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond paid working and inspection when he visited the Sentuo Oil Refinery Ltd. (SORL), touting the project as a good prospect to see to an end Ghana’s refinery problems.
The Minister lamented over the massive amount of money that goes into the importation of refined oil and gas products annually and expressed optimism that this project has come at the opportune time to address this challenge.
The Minister was met on arrival by a top delegation from the Sentua Group led by the Chairman, XU NING QUAN. Mr Quan noted that the refinery’s output would meet Ghana’s annual demand for petroleum products adding that it would help deal with challenges confronting the importation of petroleum products.
During a tour of the facility on Monday, Mr Quan said the company was in discussions with the Ministry of Energy to acquire 500,000 barrels of crude oil from Ghana’s oil fields for its first production.
