India’s SmartChem releases Amsul bid for June

SmartChem Technologies (STL), an Indian fertilizer importer, has filed a tender to purchase 20,000t of caprolactam-grade standard ammonium sulphate (amsul) for delivery in the first part of June.

The tender demanded that the cargo be carried to the port of Mumbai. Bids must be submitted by April 26th, with bids valid through April 28th. The product is believed to be sourced from China.

SmartChem last launched a tender on 7 February to purchase 20,000-25,000t of standard amsul for shipment to India’s west coast in early March, with award pricing in the $220s/t cfr India.

Prices for standard amsul have been falling since November 2022, with Argus-assessed prices at a midpoint of $122.50/t fob China on April 20. According to industry observers, Chinese amsul prices are projected to rise modestly in the coming weeks due to significant demand from trading firms looking to meet their previous short obligations for May shipments. This week, Chinese fertilizer company Fujian Tianchen issued a domestic tender for $130/t FOB China for loading by June 10th.
